heartbreak twelve years ago, Adaora finds herself thrust back into his life when her financial firm is employed to organise Aristar’s finances. She has a fortress built around her heart and finds it hard to trust. Ikenna, one of Nigeria’s highest paid musicians, is finally at the top of his game. He has fame, more money that he could ever dream of, and the life he has always wanted. He seems to have it all, but something is missing. In spite of all the women who persistently threw themselves at him, the one person he can't seem to forget is Adaora. He has manipulated events to bring her back into his life, but will he be able to convince her to give them another chance, or will the bitterness of the past destroy their chance at happiness?
Show lessAdaora and Ikenna fell in love as teenagers. She is the daughter of a wealthy family. He is now a renowned highlife musician. They were young and ready to choose each other, and then they were separated.
Twelve years later they meet again. Whatever they had back then has not gone away.
Our reader connected most with Adaora. She grew up under constant scrutiny, with the pressure that comes from being part of a wealthy family, and the book takes time over her insecurities.
She had so much depth to her.
Ikenna got his credit too. After all those years the feelings are still there, and our reader enjoyed watching him go after Adaora again.
Then there are Adaora's brothers. Our reader understood that they wanted to protect their sister, but some of their decisions had her giving them a long side-eye.
What she enjoyed most was the mix: the family dynamics, the music, the emotional depth and the second chance. In her words, the story is not only about two people who fall in love again. It is also about healing from what separated them and finding the courage to choose each other this time.
Short verdict: A sweet, emotional and music-filled read. Our reader recommends it if you love second-chance romance, childhood sweethearts, celebrity romance and family drama.
