Ruth Morgan Ekpembe grew up amidst true love and the sacrifices couples made to have and keep it. She recognized love at fifteen when she fell for Java – Desmond Udom – the man whom her father resented for his part in a previous threat against their large family. At fifteen, she understood she could not have what she desperately desired, so she left it to fate. However, at twenty-one, it seemed she still could not get her happy ever after. The only difference now was that she could and would fight for it, even as the figurative fight morphed into the literal with a threat looming over Java’s life.Java was no villain and certainly no hero; he was a nerd. His brief stint into crime resulted in his connection to a clan of crime fighters; a clan his gullible plan to retrieve his inheritance had almost harmed. Morgan Ekpembe, the meanest among the clan detested him openly. Yet, it was Morgan’s daughter that Java could not live without. He’d avoided her teen crush on him, but as an adult, Ruth took residence in his soul. Despite his debilitating dread, he would face Morgan for Ruth, for love. Meanwhile, an enemy connected to the past hunts him. For the first time in his life, Java must become a hero. He must become a man worthy of Morgan’s daughter, even if it meant certain death.
