Sona Books Limited has launched Sọna, a digital publishing platform designed for African writers, publishers, and readers first, while remaining open to anyone who wants to use it.
Founded by Lara T. Kareem, Sọna was created in response to long-standing gaps in publishing infrastructure, especially around digital access, discovery, reading experience, payments, and meaningful support for writers and publishers.
Sọna brings key parts of the publishing journey into one connected ecosystem. It includes Sọna Reader, the reading experience across web, iOS, and Android, where readers can discover, purchase, and read books. It also includes tools for writers and publishers to upload, manage, price, and distribute their titles, alongside an internal operations system that supports moderation, verification, and platform oversight.
The platform is built to create a more credible, locally relevant, and sustainable system for digital publishing. For readers, Sọna offers a premium reading experience with secure ebook delivery, library management, and cross-device access. For writers and publishers, it offers a more direct publishing route and a platform designed with their realities in mind.
“African writers, publishers, and readers deserve better publishing infrastructure. Sọna was built to make digital reading more accessible and digital publishing more sustainable, credible, and rewarding for the people it should serve first.”
Sọna has launched with a clear point of view and will continue to evolve as the platform grows.
